In-Place Windows Upgrade or Re-install

If you have HICSOAP PROFESSIONA/DELUXE working on a computer and you upgrade Windows or wipe the computer and re-install Windows then you should do the following steps. An example of this is upgrading a computer from Windows XP to Windows 7 or formatting the hard drive and re-installing Windows 7. Some programs are made to just work after an in-place operating system upgrade. That isn't the case with HICSOAP - so you essentially have to uninstall and reinstall.

Non-Networked: Database file stored on computer being upgraded

  1. Backup program. MAIN MENU -> UTILITIES -> DATABASE -> BACKUP. Copy backup file to server or USB flash drive.
  2. Registration Removal. MAIN MENU -> UTILITIES -> REMOVE REGISTRATION. Then email the removal code to support@hicsoap.com.
  3. If you aren't going to format the hard drive in the process of installing the operating system then
    1. Uninstall all HICSOAP/HOLLADAY programs.
    2. Move/Delete all HICSOAP folders (c:\HICIOL, C:\HICSOAP PRO, ETC) and data files into another folder like c:\OldHicSoapStuff. We will be re-installing HICSOAP and we don't want any collisions/interference from old installations or files.
  4. Do operating system upgrade or re-install.
  5. Download latest version from hicsoap.com and install. When asked indicate that you want to use a new, blank database.
  6. Transfer database backup file created in step #1 to Desktop.
  7. Restore database from backup on new computer. MAIN MENU -> UTILITIES -> DATABASE -> RESTORE. Please don't restore from a backup file on a network drive or USB flash drive. For inexplicable reasons, that sometimes doesn't work. Please first copy the backup file to the hard drive with the new installation. And then restore from that file.
  8. Unlock: Email registration code to support@hicsoap.com from new installation to get new unlock key.

Networking Situation

If the database file is not stored on the computer that's being upgraded, i.e. it's on a server, then you don't have to bother with backing up and restoring the database.

  1. Determine the database file.
  2. Backup program. MAIN MENU -> UTILITIES -> DATABASE -> BACKUP. Just in case - it won't be used.
  3. Registration Removal. MAIN MENU -> UTILITIES -> REMOVE REGISTRATION. Then email the removal code to support@hicsoap.com.
  4. If you aren't going to format the hard drive in the process of installing the operating system then
    1. Uninstall all HICSOAP/HOLLADAY programs.
    2. Move or Delete all HICSOAP folders (c:\HICIOL, C:\HICSOAP PRO, ETC) and data files on this computer into another folder like c:\OldHicSoapStuff.   7. Configure the program to use the database file determined in step #1. MAIN MENU -> PROGRAM & SURGEON SETUP -> ADVANCED tab: Current database file : CLICK Change.
  8. Unlock: Email registration code to support@hicsoap.com from new installation to get new unlock key.
